Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Unemployment, particularly among the youth, remains one of the most pressing challenges in Nigeria, and local governments have been tasked with addressing this issue by promoting skill acquisition programs. Karu South Local Government Area (LGA) in Nasarawa State is no exception to the national trend of high unemployment rates, especially among young people. Local governments in Nigeria, including Karu South, have introduced various initiatives aimed at equipping the youth with skills that are essential for economic self-sufficiency and employment. These initiatives include vocational training programs, partnerships with private sector organizations, and micro-financing schemes designed to promote entrepreneurship. Despite these efforts, unemployment remains a significant issue, with many youth struggling to find meaningful employment (Umar & Hassan, 2024).
